    • This is the second novel in Anne Holt's Hanne Wilhelmsen series, and lives up to the strong promise of the first installment. Hanne is a detective on the Oslo police force, definitely overworked but still a very good and a very dedicated cop. This novel begins with a series of "pranks" -- empty spaces drenched with blood -- but soon escalates into a matter of rape and murder. Background conditions add to the pressure, with Oslo in the middle of a heatwave, and police budgets under super-tight [...]

    • Solid crime novel from the excellent Ann Holt. Previous reviews do a fine job covering the essentials. I'll add only that in my limited experience (three Holt books), this series seems to get better as it progresses. Strong writing, with original plots and well-fleshed out characters.

    • Not up to Hanne Wilhelmnsens usual standard I'm afraid. Had it for a good time now; normally I would race through one of her books but this one has found its place among many books that I have started and not finished. The story simply doesn't interest me. The heroine is now in a wheel chair and trying to solve a crime. I don't find the story credible and to make matters worse, I don't find any interest in the heroine. She is sour and complaining Stick to one of her previous books about the same [...]

    • Easy to read, enjoyable series. Interesting to see the characters develop. Good story line, trying to work out what year it is set in as the talk about faxes and typewriters making it seem like the 80s. But in some other references might be the 90s.

    • Hanne is sent to a murder scene where this is lots of blood - but no body. Soon another one occurs. Is it a serial murderer?Shortly after this a young woman is raped in her apartment - it completely destroys her - and she moves back in with her father
